The big picture: using wildflower strips for pest control
Plant Sciences for the Bioeconomy
Sophie is a scientific technician in the genomics and plant transformation laboratories for the “Accelerating Willow Breeding and Deployment” project funded by the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero. Her role involves the genome sequencing and high-throughput genotyping of elite willow genotypes, as well as the development of universal tissue culture-based protocols for their rapid multiplication.
Sophie previously completed a work placement year at Rothamsted in 2019-2020 as part of her MSci Biological Sciences degree, studying candidate genes associated with shoot branching and drought resistance in willow (Salix spp.), by novel NGS analysis of QTL intervals.
