Protecting Crops and the Environment
Sandra works in biointeractions and crop protection, and provides laboratory support by ensuring that the laboratories are clean and that all scientific equipment is ready to use by the scientific staff, students and visiting workers. She is responsible for autoclaving Cat I, Cat II waste and media, cleaning and sterilising glassware, ensuring hazardous waste/chemicals are safely and correctly disposed of, manages the smooth running of the service room, laboratories (205-237) and kitchen areas and the ordering of associated laboratory consumables and equipment. Sandra also keeps equipment certification records up to date, including data entry and maintenance records, and arranges repairs as necessary. When required, Sandra will identify any problems associated with the smooth and safe running of the laboratories and bring any difficulties to the attention of line managers. Sandra also covers other service areas within the Centenary and Bawden buildings as a result of sickness and holiday leave. Sandra will also help other support staff with any technical problems within their departments. She will also help scientific groups as required with sample preparations and experiments.
