Biography

Martin's key research interest is the biodiversity of beneficial arthropods on farmland, and their functional use as part of integrated pest management in crops. He is also interested in the feeding behaviour of crop pests and the movement of pests and beneficials through farmland. Martin's expertise is in the organisation, setting-up and sampling of large scale field trials. He is also an expert in the identification of the insects and spiders that predate and parasitise the insect pests of crops. His latest areas of work include studying the effects of using cover crops on beneficial and pest insect populations; the movement of pollen beetles through fields; and the feeding behaviour of cabbage stem flea beetle.
