The big picture: using wildflower strips for pest control
Plant Sciences for the Bioeconomy
Lihua’s research interest is mainly in the area of lipid metabolism. Her project is focused on engineering omega-3 fish oils (EPA and DHA) in the oilseed crop, Camelina. With the emerging field of synthetic biology, she conducts high-throughput DNA circuit assembly, and tests their performance in Camelina by sophisticated lipidomics analysis. She is also actively involved in a series of transgenic Camelina-produced fish oil trials in different organisms, and she tests the GM plant’s agricultural traits in a range of geographic locations. These land-based sources of omega-3 fish oils will contribute to the sustainability of the fish farming industry and benefit human health and well-being in the future.
