The big picture: using wildflower strips for pest control
Sustainable Soils and Crops
Jackie has focused on cell wall biosynthesis and composition in grasses for the past ten years, mainly in wheat grain, using molecular techniques to identify genes responsible for the biosynthesis of the major cell wall components and biochemical techniques to investigate the structure of these components. She has previously worked on cereal storage proteins, photorespiration in barley, wheat grain development and plant pathogen detection and population dynamics. Jackie is a research scientist with more than 25 years' experience of working in plant science, including plant molecular biology and biochemistry, plant biotechnology, molecular plant pathology and wheat grain quality. The current focus of her research is investigating the fine structure and properties of the major grass cell wall polysaccharide, arabinoxylan, including how these relate to wheat end use quality.
