Applications are now being sought for the position of Rothamsted Research Director and Chief Executive.
The successful candidate will be responsible for further developing and securing Rothamsted’s profile as a world class scientific research establishment.
Chairman of Rothamsted’s Board of Trustee-Directors, Professor Sir John Beddington said: “We are seeking an Institute Director who has the character, resolve and appetite - together with a depth of knowledge of the research landscape - to advance our contribution to a sustainable future.
“The new Director must provide inspiring strategic leadership that reaches into all aspects of its business including scientific direction and human and financial resource management, whilst having their finger on the pulse of the broader strategic context nationally and internationally.”
Alongside delivery of excellent science and innovation from the institute’s current and future strategic programmes, the Institute Director will be responsible for reshaping the Institute’s future science focus, including an exciting digitalisation initiative, which will infuse a significant amount of new science and talent into Rothamsted.

ABOUT LAT
The Lawes Agricultural Trust, established in 1889 by Sir John Bennet Lawes, supports Rothamsted Research’s national and international agricultural science through the provision of land, facilities and funding. LAT, a charitable trust, owns the estates at Harpenden and Broom's Barn, including many of the buildings used by Rothamsted Research. LAT provides an annual research grant to the Director, accommodation for nearly 200 people, and support for fellowships for young scientists from developing countries. LAT also makes capital grants to help modernise facilities at Rothamsted, or invests in new buildings.
